DESCRIPTION:This presentation introduces a modern framework for climate ri
sk assessment and illustrates its application through examples ranging fro
m the sub-national to the European scale. A particular focus is placed on
the first European Climate Risk Assessment (EUCRA)\, highlighting both its
conceptual foundations and practical relevance for policy-making.\n\nThe
talk discusses how quantitative and qualitative information can be systema
tically integrated within climate risk assessments\, and how impact chains
can serve as a coherent conceptual backbone linking hazards\, exposure\,
vulnerability\, and impacts. Special attention is given to cascading and c
ompound risks\, as well as to the critical role of non-climatic risk drive
rs in shaping climate risks.\n\nBy reflecting on lessons learned from EUCR
A and related assessments\, the presentation aims to contribute to the ong
oing discussion on robust\, policy-relevant climate risk assessment approa
ches that go beyond single-hazard perspectives and better capture real-wor
 ld complexity.
